Herky is a student dressed in black and gold with wings and either a hawk football helmet head or a hawk head for other events. The mascot was introduced in 1959 and his appearances included pranks and stunts, which were eventually banned by the university. The Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling program is one of the most storied in NCAA Division I. They are a member of the Big Ten athletic conference and have 22 National Championships, the second most in NCAA history. The program's head coach is Tom Brands, and they meet at home in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
